💪 Goalkeeping exercises in Learn Handball

Competence about goalkeeper training is in short supply in children's handball. That is why we have created goalkeeping exercises “everyone” can carry out — without prior knowledge of goalkeeper training. At some age levels, there are now up to 30 different goalkeeping exercises to choose from.

Rotation at the start
From the age of 6-10, we want as many as possible to dare to visit the goal to try themselves as goalkeepers. The use of soft ball is a prerequisite for this to be successful. As coaches, we're going to facilitate rotation, and not be tempted to put the best in goal. Most likely it will result in a few more backwards goals, but our job as children's coaches is to stimulate kids through a wide variety of movements and positions.

Important role
From the age of 11, we also want rotation, but the tendency here is clear. There are often only a few who want to be goalkeepers. These should be taken care of, by stimulating the desire and interest to stand in the goal. The role of the goalkeeper is becoming more and more important in handball. Therefore, spend time on goalkeeper training, and explain to the children why.

On the contrary, we also see that more people absolutely do not want to stand in the goal. I have to say that I understand very well because some of the players are starting to shoot incredibly hard. We hope that some of our exercises will lead more people to dare to try their hand. It is quite possible to practice goalkeeping exercises even if you do not want to stand in goal in a match.

Completion
A big challenge with goalie training is that unfortunately the outfielders don't hit where we want during training. Therefore, we encourage doing a good part of the goalkeeper training outside the team workouts, or on the opposite side.
Very many of our exercises can be done regardless of age, which means that the club can bring together goalkeepers from several age groups at the same time, thereby increasing the quality of training.

Technique training, eye-hand/foot coordination, body restraint and mobility are key topics in goalkeeper training. In many of our exercises, we practice just this.

Where are the exercises located?
