🤔 Are sports clubs facing a crisis of volunteering?

The article, which was carried out for Danmarks Idrætsforbund (DIF) and DGI*, captures important changes that will affect volunteering in sport going forward.

A brief summary of the article:

Theme: Changes in volunteering in Danish sports clubs.

  • A new survey conducted for Danmarks Idrætsforbund (DIF) and DGI* shows that volunteering in sport is changing.
  • While Danes' general view of volunteering is positive, there is a growing need to adapt to more loosely affiliated volunteers.
  • The survey indicates that there is a mismatch between what the associations are searching for in volunteers and what potential volunteers can offer.
  • Initiatives to adapt to changes in volunteering include surveying the existing situation, designating volunteer managers, and encouraging more episodic volunteering.
  • There is also a focus on supporting and relieving the more committed volunteers.

* Danske Gymnastik- og Idrætsforeninger (DGI) is a Danish association of sports clubs. It includes 5,000 local sports teams and 1.3 million athletes. Unlike Danmarks Idræts-Forbund (DIF), DGI has a much greater focus on width sports, and has traditionally had the turn as the most important sport. Gradually, however, other sports, such as badminton, football, handball and swimming, have also grown into a sizeable share of DGI's business. (wikipedia)
